Women's Health Q & A

How often should I have a woman’s health exam?

Ideally, you should have an appointment with your gynecologist once a year. Though you may not need to have an annual Pap smear, it’s a good idea to check in on your health and talk to a professional about any symptoms or changes you’ve noticed. Many women’s health conditions don’t cause noticeable symptoms in their early stages and having routine health screenings can help you get the treatment you need before you suffer any negative impact.

Dr. Williamson and her staff provide a wide range of preventive health screenings and are committed to helping you improve your health. They perform a detailed family medical history to determine if genetic testing and/or a Breast Cancer Risk Assessment is indicated. They also provide immunizations, including the HPV vaccine to protect your health. They’re concerned about your overall health and can help you make lifestyle changes to enhance your wellbeing.

What are the women’s health issues I should be concerned about?

Women face a wide variety of potential health issues. In addition to heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure, you may also face reproductive health issues such as premenstrual syndrome (PMS), endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and fertility issues.

Dr. Williamson and her team help you manage your total body health. During your annual women’s health visit, they offer screenings and blood tests to identify any changes or warning signs of disease.

You and your provider discuss your personal and family medical history as well as any changes in your health. Based on your discussion, your health care provider may recommend additional testing.

If your tests reveal a health problem, Dr. Williamson and her team offer expert treatments and customized care to restore your health.

What treatments can help me improve my health?

Dr. Williamson and her team provide customized treatment plans to address your specific health needs. Although nearly everyone could benefit from adding exercise to their daily routine and losing a little weight, you receive personalized support and advice to make positive changes.

However, if your routine wellness check reveals a health issue, Dr. Williamson and her team provide the medicine and other treatments necessary to restore your health. For example, if endometriosis is causing painful, heavy periods, Dr. Williamson may suggest hormone therapy or minimally invasive procedures to reduce or eliminate your symptoms.
